RUSSELL COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – A Russell county family has been displaced from their home Saturday after a fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. Russell County Emergency management coordinator Jess Powers says the fire happened on Mountain Road in Cedar Bluff Virginia.

Authorities say the family was able to escape from the home through a bedroom window. Two dogs did not survive the fire. The family’s daughter was staying with a relative and was not inside the home when the fire broke out.

Powers says the Red Cross is helping the family.  The cause of the fire is still being investigated at this time.
