Body found in Watauga River in Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL)  – The Carter County Sheriff’s Office and the Elizabethton Police Department are currently investigating a body that was found in the Watauga River. Investigators say the body is of a male, but an age description was not available at this time.

According to Elizabethton police, the body was discovered around 8:00 a.m. along the riverbanks of the Watauga by two fisherman near the intersection of Highway 91 and Highway 67.

The Carter County Rescue Squad aided with transporting the body from the river.

Investigators say an autopsy will be performed at the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine.

In addition, investigators with the sheriff’s office and the city police department are checking records of any missing person reports for any clues.
