WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – The Public Works Board of Washington County supported a decision to not install a guardrail along Greenwood Drive.
Homeowners have been demanding safety improvements along that road, citing a lot of wrecks.
The most recent was when a car crashed into a home on the 4,300 block of that road.
During Wednesday’s meeting, however, the board motioned to stand behind the superintendent saying crews have done everything that is needed in order to keep that area safe — citing if they were to put in a guardrail, it would not meet the American Association of State Highway and Transportation officials guidelines.
“It’s up to the driver to adapt to the conditions of the weather and the road conditions at that time,” John Deakins, highway superintendent, said. “If it’s raining, you need to adapt to those conditions. You need to slow down and pay attention.”
Officials said the main thing that can be done to improve safety is for everyone to follow the speed limit on that roadway.
