Doctors: Slow down when it comes to summer vacations

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Parents, we know the end of summer can be hectic with last-minute vacations as school preparations begin. However, doctors are advising families to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Doctors recommend getting outside and getting fresh air with your children. They also advise staying active as much as possible, while grabbing all the fresh foods you can.

“Ninety-percent of the serotonin is in your gut. Serotonin is the chemical that makes you happy so if you’re not eating fresh food, you’re going to feel that dip in your mood,” says Dr. Jamie Kulaga, a mental health expert.

Doctors say taking your plans down a notch and savoring the time with your children is the best way to avoid the stress before the school year starts.
