BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL) – The man accused of targeting drivers earlier this month with his automatic rifle in Bristol, TN is now out of the hospital and inside a jail. Lakeem Scott is accused of killing a woman and injuring three other while firing shots at several vehicles on Volunteer Parkway on July 7.
In addition, Scott allegedly fired at police during the rampage.
Scott was struck by police gunfire and taken to the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Last week, while he was still in the hospital, he was indicted by a grand jury one one count of first degree murder, seven counts of attempted first-degree murder and seven counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Scott was officially booked into the Sullivan County Jail this morning and is being held on a $5 million bond.
District Attorney General Barry Staubus said he hasn’t decided if he will pursue the death penalty in this case.
“After arraignment and attorneys are appointed, the next step, we’ll determine what punishment will be sought by the state, and I haven’t gotten to that point yet, that’ll be something that’ll have to be announced at a later hearing,” Staubus said.
News Channel 11 captured images of Scott’s arrival to the Sullivan County Jail on a stretcher. We’ve included video of his arrival to jail in this report.
Scott is schedule to appear in court this Friday at 9:00 a.m.
