KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – A Mount Carmel man is facing charges of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection to the shooting death of a man in Kingsport. Investigators say the shooting happened at a home on Donelson Drive shortly before 2:00 a.m.
Police said they found the body of Zaccari A. Miller at front doorway of the home. Investigators said he had a gunshot wound to the back of his head and neck area. Officers say they also found a handgun in Miller’s hand.
When police arrived investigators say, 21-year-old Quinten Shelton, was sitting in the living room and had blood on his hands and shirt – but he did not appear to have any injuries.
Based on what they could gather, investigators determined Miller and Shelton had gotten into an argument. During the argument, police say Shelton pulled out a handgun and fired it striking Miller in the back of the head and neck area.
Investigators say Shelton told them conflicting stories about what happened , which were “inconsistent with the evidence at the scene”.
Investigators say Shelton fired the gun and “deliberately placed it in the victim’s hand” before police arrived.
Shelton was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He is currently behind bars at the Kingsport City Jail.
