Johnson City, TN (WJHL) – A Johnson City mother says her 10 year old son was seriously injured in a crash while on vacation in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Gregory family says their car was in traffic when they were hit from behind by a car going about 60 miles per hour.

Shauna Gregory says her son 10 year old Andrew Gregory suffered internal injuries and injuries to his skull.

Gregory said, “It broke his facial bones. The bones were in his eye socket. And it shattered his skull, and what happened was he had an epidural hemmorrage, and it was causing a huge blood clot in his brain. He was in minutes of dying.”

Shauna added Andrew was rushed into surgery at a Savannah, Georgia hospital.

We talked with the family on Wednesday and Andrew told us he was looking at his notebook when the crash happeded.

“I was drawing on my notebook and then suddenly this guy behind us just hit us and it’s freaked me out a bit”, said Andrew.

The Gregory family returned home to Johnson City Tuesday and said Andrew has a long road of recovery but he’s in great spirits.

While holding her son in her arms his mother Shauna added, “He’s starting to see his scars and stuff now. I said I don’t care, you’re beautiful you are such a handsome little man and I am so happy that I get to look into your eyes every single day now.”
