DUBLIN (WSLS) – A 21-year-old woman spent Fourth of July weekend in jail after a series of traffic stops. Virginia State Police pulled Kai Kitchen, of Los Angeles, Calif., over three times in an hour before arresting her for reckless driving.
Police released the following information about the traffic stops.
At 7 a.m., on July 3, Virginia State Police Trooper N.S. Rife was operating stationary radar at mile marker 103 on Interstate 81 in Pulaski County when a 2010 Honda Civic traveling south on Interstate 81 came through radar at 93 mph, 23 mph above the speed limit. Rife pulled over the car and the driver, Kitchen, was cited for reckless driving and released on the summons.
Forty minutes later, Rife was at the same mile marker when the same Civic came through at 97 mph. Rife again cited Kitchen for reckless driving and released her on the summons.
Then, at 8 a.m., Virginia State Police Trooper M.R. Overholt was operating stationary radar at mile marker 89 in Pulaski County when the Civia came through the radar at 94 mph, 24 mph over the speed limit. Overholt pulled over the Civic and was alerted to the fact that Kitchen had just received two prior reckless driving tickets within the past hour.
Kitchen was then taken to the New River Regional Jail to appear before a magistrate who issued an arrest warrant for misdemeanor reckless driving.
