Sen. Corker takes himself out of consideration for Trump VP position

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN/CNN) – Tennessee Senator Bob Corker has taken himself out of consideration for the position of Donald Trump’s running mate.

His office confirms that he has not, however, taken himself out of the running for a possible cabinet position.

This announcement comes just one day after Sen. Corker joined Donald Trump at a campaign rally in North Carolina.

“I think there are jobs that are for people like me –  If you were gonna serve in administration. What I’m doing right now is a tremendous privilege that people like me are probably a little bit better suited for, ” said Sen. Bob Corker, (R) Tennessee.

Many think Corker might be considered for positions like Secretary of State or Treasury Secretary.

“It speaks volumes about him and the path he has forged that he might be considered for those positions,” said Tennessee Republican Party Executive Director Brent Leatherwood.

When asked by a CNN reporter about Secretary of State, Corker had this to say:

“I don’t want to be presumptuous. But, there are jobs certainly that people like me with the kind of background have and that probably I’m better suited for,” said Sen. Corker.

Former presidential candidate Ben Carson does not think this is an unusual decision.

“Senator Corker has been a patriot, worked very hard for this country and is doing a good job for the people of Tennessee and decided he wants to continue to do that job,” said Carson. “I don’t see anything unusual about that. People ask me the same thing. Why did you not want to be considered, and I didn’t think it was a good thing for me to do either. So I don’t think there’s anything unusual about that.”
