Lower rate of lost pets due to social media

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The Fourth of July brings fun for most, but not always for your pets.

Animal shelter numbers spike this time of year, because animals run away. Each year, the Lenoir County SPCA expects numerous phone calls for lost pets.

This year, they have not received one so far.

Caretakers with the facility think the reduce in calls to social media. Robert Vernatt, of the Lenoir County SPCA, said social media helps and it is always important to remember how to keep your animals safe.

“It’s always a good idea to keep your TV on or radio on something just to drown out some of the noise, and you know then they don’t hear what’s going on with all the loud noises,” Vernatt said.

The Lenoir County SPCA is filling up fast year round. They encourage everybody to come out and make an adoption.
