HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies charged a man with attempted murder, after he reportedly shot a man on July 4.
According to a HCSO news release, deputies responded to a shooting call on Carpenter Farm Drive in Mooresburg, Tenn. around 9:15 p.m.
Deputies located Robert Bevins, 50, of Thorn Hill, Tenn., at a neighboring residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm.
Bevins said he had arrived at the home to take a woman and a 4-year-old child to a fireworks show.
Bevins and Roger Miller reportedly got into an argument and Miller got a shotgun.
According to the release, Bevins was unarmed and was holding the 4-year-old on his lap.
Miller then fired one shot, hitting Bevins as he sat in his parked truck.
Bevins reportedly shielded the child and was in the process of giving the child to the woman, who was reaching in from the passenger side door of Bevins’ truck.
The child and the woman were not injured in the shooting.
Bevins was taken to an area hospital by Hawkins County Emergency Medical Services, where he was listed to be in stable condition.
Miller was charged with attempted murder and two counts of felony reckless endangerment.
