KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Two years after the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government raised concerns about a planned private dinner for Kingsport and Johnson City leaders, the two cities are going to give it another shot, now with Bristol in the mix, but this time they’re going to give the public a heads up.
Leaders from the three cities are planning to have dinner in Kingsport on July 26. The event is planned as an opportunity for the three groups to talk about how they can improve the region. The invitation reveals the groups will give public notice so as not violate any open meeting laws.
Johnson City leaders, at Kingsport’s request, planned on attending a similar dinner in 2014, but Kingsport cancelled that dinner after our Community Watchdog started asking questions.
Although city officials said at the time they would not deliberate at that planned 2014 dinner, TCOG said that would be hard to control.
