TWRA: Momma bear struck and killed on 11-E in Washington Co., two cubs rescued

TELFORD, TN (WJHL) – A man was taken to the hospital Monday morning after his truck struck and killed a momma bear in Washington County, TN.

The medium-sized bear was struck along Highway 11-E, just past Moccasin Trail in Telford.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital to be treated for neck pain.

Officers with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency located two bear cubs — a male and a female — up in a tree behind the VFW in Telford.

Officials were able to retrieve the cubs from the tree using the Town of Jonesborough’s bucket truck.

The cubs were being transported to the Appalachian Bear Rehab Center.

Officers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the crash.
