Tenant hospitalized, faces charges after allegedly attacking Abingdon landlord

ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) – Authorities in Southwest Virginia say a man was shot by his landlord during a heated argument early Monday.  According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting on Harmony Way around 1:30 a.m. in Abingdon, VA.

When deputies arrived they found a woman who allegedly was cut with a knife by her boyfriend, 50-year-old Billie Little, but she refused medical treatment.

Little also allegedly got into an argument with his landlord, 67-year-old Alfred Robbins. Little allegedly attacked Robbins with a sledge hammer, but authorities say, Robbins shot Little with a handgun.

Little was taken by aircraft to Bristol Regional Medical Center where he remains in serious condition.

Little faces charges of malicious wounding and attempted malicious wounding, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. And authorities say the incident appears to be a matter of self-defense.

“Preliminary indications are that the shooting appears to have been an act of self-defense,” said Major Byron Ashbrook.
