Local restaurant donates portion of sales to family of Unicoi teen killed in crash

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL)- As a community here in the Tri-Cities continues to mourn the loss of a teenager, one local restaurant is working to do their part to help the family during their time of need.

Wayne Ayers with Ole Barn restaurant in Johnson City said on Saturday, 25 percent of their sales will go toward helping the family of 18-year-old Ashlie Padgett.

Padgett was a recent Unicoi County High School graduate who died earlier this month from injuries she received in a crash.

Ayers said Ashlie has family members who work at Ole Barn, and said the past few weeks have been difficult for everyone.

“She is very athletic, and she is just a great person and its really struck home to everyone. It is something we need to do, and they are good people, and they need help I’m sure,” Ayers said.

When we checked in with Ayers on Sunday morning he said the restaurant raised just under $1,000 for the Padgett family.

Friday night community members gathered in Unicoi County at the softball field in Ashlie’s honor for a candle light ceremony.

The crash Ashlie was involved in is still under investigation.
