Unicoi County, TN (WJHL) – Folks in the Unicoi community are still mourning the loss of a teenager and to help pay tribute lit up a softball field Friday night in her honor.
Eighteen-year-old Ashlie Padgett died earlier this month from the injuries she received in a crash.
She’s was a recent graduate of Unicoi County High School.
The Washington County, Tennessee sheriff’s office says the crash happened on fire tower road on Buffalo Mountain.
Investigators say a pickup truck with three people inside hit a tree and flipped.
Padgett’s death is something Unicoi County is still trying to understand.
On Sunday, people filled Unicoi County High School for Ashlie’s memorial service.
Folks once again gathered at the high school in the very spot they say Ashlie’s Talent shined.
Community members attended a candlelit ceremony at the Unicoi County softball field Friday.
It doesn’t make Ashlie’s death any less painful, but her friends and loved ones say they’re thankful for the community’s support.
Padgett’s best friend Haley Peterson said, “Everybody comes together in this community cause we’re all very close.”
“All of us went to school with Ashlie since she moved here from providence in the 7th grade. We all shared a bond with Ashlie. She was really special to everybody.”
The crash Ashlie was involved in is still under investigation.
