Mountain Home VA nurse pleads guilty to federal drug charge for stealing pain meds

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – A Mountain Home VA Medical Center nurse has pleaded guilty to stealing pain medications while on the job.

According to court documents, Misty Elaine McCracken pleaded guilty to one count of unlawfully possessing a schedule two controlled substance yesterday in Greeneville federal court.

Court records reveal she admitted to taking Hydromorphone beginning in the spring of 2015.

“McCracken eventually admitted that she had withdrawn Hydromorphone for patients that did not have an order for the medication at least seven (7) to eight (8) instances,” her plea agreement said.

A federal judge will sentence her on September 14.

A Mountain Home VA spokesperson confirms McCracken is no longer employed at the facility.
