JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Appalachian League Baseball season officially starts Thursday night, and there’s a few changes to be on the lookout for this season.
In Johnson City, the Cardinals have a newly renovated locker room and are almost done with a party deck that can hold about 200 fans.
Johnson City Cardinals General Manager Tyler Parsons told News Channel 11, they hope these upgrades will improve the fan experience and get more fans out to the park.
“Last year we had over 40,000 (visitors), the year before we had 40,000 people so in two years we had over 80,000 people come here,” said Parsons.
Another change in Johnson City, after a switch up in management, and about $350,000 worth of upgrades, Cardinal Park’s name was officially changed to TVA Credit Union Ballpark.
Kingsport Mets General Manager Brian Paupeck said during the off season they renovated their locker room and have plans for more stadium upgrades as well.
The Mets also solidified plans to remain in the model city for the next 5 years.
