Dollywood’s ‘Lightning Rod’ closed for recall

PIGEON FORGE (wJHL) – Dollywood’s ‘Lightning Rod’ roller coaster closed on Saturday. The new thrill ride will remain closed until further notice.

The ride manufacturer ordered all of its coasters to close because of a mechanical part.

Dollywood posted the following announcement on their website:

Lightning Rod is closed today. Rocky Mountain Construction ordered the roller coaster closed until further notice as a recalled mechanical part is replaced.

The ride is themed after a 1950s era hot rod officially opened last week.  The coaster reaches a top speed of 73 miles per hour, which deems it the fastest wood coaster in the world.
