KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The University of Tennessee adjusted the upcoming school year’s academic calendar to accommodate the football season opener.
The Vols will play Appalachian State on September 1. The game was moved up two days for ESPN and SEC networks.
Athletic Director Dave Hart said, “I believe that everyone involved in the ongoing collaboration that led to this logistical conclusion feels good about the fact that we were able to meet our collective priority to not interrupt the academic schedule on that Thursday.”
There will be an administrative closing and no classes on game day. The university says most campus offices will be closed in order to help with traffic, parking and security.
The university will add another class day to the semester. Students will have a study day on November 30. The last day of classes will be December 1. This is also the deadline for withdrawal.
Students will have a second study day on December 2. Exams will begin at 8 a.m. on December 3 and end at 2:30 p.m. on December 9.
Graduation hooding will be December 8 and the university-wide commencement will be December 9.
“We look forward to the exciting opportunity to represent our conference on the SEC Network to open the 2016 season on the first night in September,” said Hart.
