Sullivan County, TN (WJHL) – Tuesday, the Sullivan County school board met to discuss the contracts with the architects they have chosen to develop a new high school and middle school.
The board tabled the final vote on contracts until financial details with architects can be hammered out.
Securing the architects is the first phase of a school facilities plan to improve the school system’s buildings. The plan includes three phases.
The board already allocated ninety thousand dollars for the programming study of the high school and thirty thousand for the middle school. When the board meets at their next workshop they will discuss what the caps are on extra expenditures regarding those studies.
“That gets us through the programming stages of the study of these two schools. It gets us to the preliminary stages of actually getting into some of the design stages without going deep into it”, said School Superintendent Evelyn Rafalowski.
Cain Rash West Architects in collaboration with LS3P Associates have been chosen to design the county’s new high school while Cope Architecture was chosen to design the new middle school.
The next meeting will be a workshop scheduled on July the 7th where the board will be presented more firm numbers and a vote will be taken at the regular board meeting on July the 11th.
To date no plans have been drafted for the two schools and no property has been chosen. Interstate reality has been tasked to find the properties best suited for the developments.
