GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL) – Construction continues on Walters State Community College’s new campus is Greeneville.
But the college still has quite a bit of fundraising left to do in order to complete the multi-million dollar project.
Recently Walters State received a $5 million gift from Scott Niswonger, a local businessman and philanthropist.
“With this gift we’ll be able to finish 41% of our building by Fall 2017,” said Walters State Community College (Greeneville Campus) Dean Drucilla Miller.
Miller said more donations are needed to complete the other 59% of the $30 million project.
Miller said the new campus will allow the college to expand its physical presence in the community and expand the curriculum.
“We’re going to bring the occupational therapy program here, the physical therapy program, we’re going to expand our police academy,” said Miller.
Administrators told News Channel 11, support for the new campus in Greene County is strong, and they are hoping for more monetary support as they try to complete the school.
Miller told News Channel 11, Walters State is expecting another big donation for the new campus within the next 2 weeks.
