Elizabethton city council members to hear first reading of 2016-17 budget

ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) – First reading of the 2016-17 Elizabethton budget will take place tonight.

The budget includes $200,000 annually as debt service to pay off an expansion of the Elizabethton Police Department.

Mayor Kurt Alexander said said no money is included in the budget to go toward renovations of the Elizabethton Twins baseball stadium because the city has not been given an amount that would be needed.

Alexander said there will be no property tax increase this year.

The second and final reading of the budget will be held next month to allow time for Elizabethton to receive reassessed property values from the state.
