GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A 1-year-old Hawkins County girl who was diagnosed with a severe form of epilepsy and helped spur change in Tennessee state law has died.

The family of Penelope McCall told us just last week the little girl was diagnosed with cancer.

We have continued to follow Penelope’s story for more than a year. Penelope’s family helped craft legislation that allows the medical use of cannabis oil in Tennessee to treat epilepsy.

On Thursday, Penelope’s family confirmed on her Facebook page “Penelope’s Path” that she had passed away.

Penelope’s family posted on her page, “Penelope’s Path” Thursday and said “Penelope has ended her pain and lifelong fight. She passed away this morning at home with her family. We don’t have any other words other than we are just devastated and heartbroken.”

After Penelope was diagnosed, the McCall’s made a bucket list for their daughter and got to take her to the beach last week.
