Mountain Home National Cemetery observes Memorial Day

Johnson City, TN (WJHL) – Mountain Home National Cemetery and James H. Quillen VA Medical Center held their 106th annual memorial day observance program today.

The event included a special presentation that honored families of fallen soldiers.

One of those present, Brenda Shelton, mother of Benjamin White.

Senior airman Benjamin White, of Erwin, was killed in Afghanistan in 20-10.

His mother, shelton, opened up to us about her son at the event – saying her only regret is he didn’t get to be an airman longer.

“I know Ben, and his fellow fallen would say, we’d do it again. I mean, that’s the kind of mentality I think they have when they go in is that they know the potential cost may be, but they’re willing to pay that cost if if comes to that.”

The ceremony concluded with a 3-volley rifle salute and Taps.

Hundreds of people from across the region attended the ceremony.
