Johnson City, TN (WJHL) – A Memorial Day ceremony was held earlier tonight at the Johnson City /Washington County veterans memorial at Kiwanis Park.
The memorial was built several years ago, and it’s become one of the main sights for these types of ceremonies.
Members of the Junior ROTC program, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Boy Scouts of America all honored the men and women from Washington County Tennessee who have died while serving. The three Junior ROTC cadets read a story about one of them.
“I think the most meaningful thing is that they haven’t been forgotten. That we recognize what they had to give up when they gave up a child or a husband, but to know that they are loved and appreciated by their community”, said Brenda Barnette, who is the chair of the Johnson City/Washington County Veterans Memorial.
They are also honored those who have fallen by placing a wreath on the memorial.
