SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- Saturday marked the grand opening of a brand new swim beach and boat ramp on Boone Lake.
The TVA hopes this will allow people more access to the lake despite a massive draw-down leaving behind low lake levels.
In October 2014, TVA discovered a sinkhole near the base of the Boone Dam embankment. Shortly after, engineers uncovered seepage below the dam and lowered Boone Lake to 10 feet below normal winter levels to investigate.
The draw-down is expected to last the next 5-7 years while repairs take place.
On Saturday we found the site located on Minga Road has picnic tables, a swim area, a volleyball court, and plenty of parking.
Just a few weeks ago the TVA also opened the Sugar Hollow Access area boat ramp at Devault Bridge.
