FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Tennessee coach Butch Jones used his appearance Tuesday in Middle Tennessee to announce the Vols’ newest effort to maintain a strong recruiting presence in the increasingly talent-filled Nashville area.

Jones cited his relationship with Tennessee State athletic director Teresa Phillips – the mother of Vols rising sophomore defensive end Kyle Phillips – and his “great respect for their football program,” along with geography, in explaining why Tennessee decided to hold its in-state camp at Tennessee State.

“It’ll be an easy location for everyone to get to,” he said, “and it really was a natural fit for us.”

The NCAA board of directors recently overturned the NCAA’s initial ban on satellite camps, opening the door for college to hold camps away from their campuses starting this year.

Jones said last week that Tennessee would “do a couple” of camps away from its campus this year, including one in Tennessee. But he said at the time that the Vols’ plans still were “evolving,” adding that they were “still in the process of securing” sites for their camps.
