ROGERSVILLE, TN (WJHL) – Law enforcement agents across the state are following up on hundreds of tips in connection to a local AMBER Alert case. The TBI is ”holding out hope that this is the day” they will find 9-year-old Carlie Trent and her uncle Gary Simpson.

TBI public information officer, Josh DeVine, revealed details about the trip Simpson made to Walmart just before he picked up Carlie from school on Wednesday, May 4.

He bought the following items during that trip:

  • A hot pink blanket
  • Green shirt and black pants for himself
  • Khaki pants and underwear for Carlie
  • Purple and green nail polish
  • Purple and pink lip gloss
  • A child’s camp chair
  • A purple nightgown and a two-piece bathing suit

Agents believe Simpson may be wearing the green shirt and the black pants he purchased on that day. The TBI is asking the public to be on the lookout for these items or a combination of them. The day that Carlie was picked up from school was the last time any of them were seen.

TBI spokesman, Josh DeVine pleaded with people to help find Carlie and her uncle or search their property for possible evidence of where the two may have been.

“We would certainly encourage people that if they feel like they want to make a lap of their property or they want to organize a search of their own and let us know if they find anything – by all means,” said DeVine.

“We encourage him, if he is watching, do the right thing,” said DeVine.

Carlie and her uncle are believed to be traveling in a white 2002 Dodge conversion van with stripes. The van bears a Tennessee license plate of 173 – GPS. If you see that van, Carlie or Simpson please call 9-1-1.
