Hawkins Co. trailer park shooting ruled self defense

UPDATE: Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office said a shooting at Beechwood Hills Trailer Park in Surgoinsville on May 3, where a man was killed, was ruled as self defense.

According to a HCSO news release, deputies responded to the trailer park around 10:15 p.m. on May 3, following a complaint of a man in the road suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man, Darrell Bruce Roberts, 39, was pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services.

HCSO said Roberts was shot several times while attempting to get on another man’s porch, threatening him with bodily harm.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting was in self defense.

The investigation is ongoing.


HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Deputies in Hawkins County are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday night in the Beechwood Hills Trailer Park near Surgoinsville.

Police responded to a man in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds around 10:15 p.m. The victim, identified as 39-year-old Darrell Bruce Roberts, was pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services.

Detectives say they’ve interviewed several witnesses, including the alleged shooter.

Investigators say, at this time, no other details will be released.
