Man and dog killed in single car accident

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – A man and a small dog are both dead after the car they were riding in left the road and struck and embankment.

Kingsport Police say 67-year-old Danny McClellan was driving on Fort Henry Drive when his Honda CRV veered off the right side of the road near the intersection at Tall Tree Drive.

Police say the vehilced rolled over onto the drivers side. McClellan was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County EMS. Authorities say he died upon arriving at the Hospital. At the time of the crash, a small dog was sitting on McClellan’s lap between his body and the steering wheel which contained an air bag. Police say the dog was killed instantly during the crash after the air back deployed.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
