Wellmont nurses raise thousands for cancer patients

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — A group of Wellmont nurses raised more than $60, 0000 dollars Saturday for people battling cancer.

The nurses decided to host a 5K run/walk Saturday, April 30th at Warrior’s Path State Park in Kingsport.

Organizer Monique Carrico said as an oncology nurse, she sees the struggles cancer patients go through every day and wanted to do something to help.

“We have a patient assistant fund that helps patients with paying their bills, getting medication they can’t afford, helping pay water bills, and electric bills,” said Carrio. “I really felt like God called me to organize this race.”

Carrico said over 400 people showed up for the race.
