Jury finds former Greeneville business owner guilty of sales tax evasion, money laundering, theft

GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL) – A jury found a former Greeneville business owner guilty on sales tax evasion, money laundering and theft charges.

Jerry Burkes, 50, is the former owner of Preeminent Skate Specialty, a tobacco store in Greeneville.

A Greene County Criminal Court found Burkes guilty of 12 counts of sales tax evasion, one count of money laundering and one count of theft over $60,000.

A sentencing hearing is set for June 1.

Burkes now faces up to two years in prison for each count of tax evasion and could be sentenced for up to 12 years for each of the other counts.
