ETSU issues safety alert after student reports robbery off Southwest Avenue

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – East Tennessee State University issued a safety alert after a student was allegedly robbed at gunpoint on April 23.

According to the campus-wide alert, a student reported he was robbed off Southwest Avenue around 2:00 a.m. The student told campus police the suspect had a gun and demanded everything in his pockets.

The student gave limited details, but described the suspect as a man standing around 6 feet tall, wearing a dark blue or black hoodie, blue jeans and sneakers.

The student was not injured in the incident. The case remains under investigation by ETSU Public Safety.

The robbery was reported to the public safety department on Thursday. The safety department says it’s not releasing the exact location of the robbery so as to protect the victim’s identity.
