Student reports robbery attempt on Vanderbilt campus

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police are investigating after a robbery attempt of a Vanderbilt University student on campus early Friday morning.

It happened near 25th Avenue South and Jess Neely Drive around 2 a.m.

According to a campus alert, a student was walking south on 25th Avenue when a white sedan with multiple occupants stopped in the roadway.

Someone reportedly exited the vehicle, demanded the student’s money and valuables and threatened to pull a gun.

The student continued walking while the suspect returned to the vehicle. The sedan left the scene and headed south toward Blakemore Avenue.

The vehicle was described as a Ford Crown Victoria with black rims. The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin with hair near his shoulders. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and dark-colored baggy pants at the time of the incident.

No additional information was immediately released.

The incident is under investigation by the Vanderbilt Police Department.
