DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton, Ohio man accused in the beating death of a toddler has been found guilty.
27-year-old Justin Payne was found guilty Friday of Involuntary Manslaughter, Endangering Children and Tampering with Evidence.
Prosecutors say Payne called 911 in August and said 2-year-old Jacob Barker had choked on a pop tart.
Investigators learned that Jacob died from blunt force trauma, citing injuries to the head, neck and torso.
At the time of the beating death of Jacob Barker, Payne was on post-release control after serving a two and a half year sentence for a 2011 incident where he endangered an 8-week-old baby girl.
Payne was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
