VIRGINIA (WJHL)- According to officials with Appalachian Power, approximately 23,000 customers are currently without electric service due to weather-related problems.
The company posted on their Facebook page Sunday morning saying 12,000 of those were in Virginia and 11,000 in West Virginia.
Officials with the power company said most of the damage was from downed wires, broken cross arms, and broken poles and that they were seeking additional resources outside its service territory to speed up restoration.
According to the power outage map, there were 339 reported outages in Scott County, Virginia, 137 in Smyth County, and 2,077 in Grayson County.
The company said they would be providing another update on the power outage situation Sunday at 7pm.
