JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL)- Saturday morning hundreds of people across the region came to Johnson City to get free tree seedlings.
Since 2010, the city of Johnson City has celebrated Arbor Day by giving away thousands of free tree seedlings.
The trees come from both Tennessee, and from states as far away as Montana, and Oregon.
The city gave away all kinds of trees including Dogwoods, Japanese Maple, and Redbud trees.
We ran into a couple who just moved to the Tri-Cities from another state and said they were excited to find an event like this in their backyard.
“I don’t think we ever had anything like this in Indiana, so we just stopped and now we are excited to go home plant our trees and watch the beauty,” Rose Buckley said.
Organizers of this event said they estimate since 2010, they have given away more than 20,000 tree seedlings.
