ABINGDON, VA (WJHL)- Across the state of Virginia on Saturday groups gathered as part of a day of climate action to show they are in support of clean energy.
Brian Johnson of Virginia Organizing said the group in Abingdon on Saturday was one of several across the state, hoping to send a message to Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe that they want him to push forward with a clean power plan.
Johnson said there was even a group in Richmond that marched through the streets of downtown on Saturday and then delivered signatures to the Governors mansion, hoping Governor McAuliffe will continue to take action against carbon pollution.
“We hope that he will go ahead and use his authority to create and implement a clean power plan here in Virginia, and hopefully with input from lots of different areas of the state, but do it in a way that cuts carbon, but also creates jobs in the clean energy industry,” Johnson said.
On Saturday rallies were also held in cities like Danville, and Roanoke.
