Kingsport, TN (WJHL) – The list of candidates for the TN Senate seat soon to be vacated by Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey is growing.
Monday, former District 2 State Representative Tony Shipley picked up his petition to file to run for the District 4 seat held by Ramsey the last 20 years.
“When it came open, which it doesn’t come open very often, it was an opportunity to serve again,” Shipley told News Channel 11, “and it fit my plans to consider and if we can put together the team and the money, it’s a go.”
Shipley announced his plans on his Facebook page Sunday, after he says hundreds of supporters urged him to get in the race.
“I had a number of those people who contacted me who said we need you back in Nashville, and we’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that if we can bring the pieces together, we’ll give it a try.”
Shipley served 3 terms in the Tennessee House of Representatives, before being defeated by Bud Hulsey in 2014.
