CHURCH HILL, TN (WJHL)- An Easter egg hunt in our region was met with a group of unexpected protesters on Saturday.
Jessica Boggs sent us a photo she took as she was leaving an Easter egg hunt in Church Hill right off of 11 W.
Boggs said she took her 2-year-old nephew to the Easter egg hunt, not expecting protesters to stand near the roadway along Highway 11 W.
When we spoke to her over the phone on Saturday she said protesters were holding signs and what she described as a stuffed bunny on a cross.
Boggs said the protesters were shouting things like “you are wicked” and “Jesus isn’t real” at the people participating in the Easter egg hunt.
Boggs said it happened toward the end of the event when people were gathering by the food vendors near the roadway.
She told us she left angry, and crying telling us she wasn’t alone, and that other parents were upset as well.
Boggs did mention there were two police officers standing in the vicinity of the protesters to watch over the situation and keep things calm.
We checked in with Hawkins County dispatch Saturday afternoon who did confirm that officers received several calls concerning protesters.
