Kingsport community Easter event sees record attendance

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL)-  It was a record breaking year in Kingsport for the annual Hop To It Easter event.

Organizers said 4,000 people showed up at Andrew Johnson Elementary in the Model City for the big event hosted by Food City and Preaching Christ Church.

The event included free food, games, prizes, and the Easter egg hunt featuring 20,000 eggs filled with candy.

“We’ve actually had people that have come here from Erwin, Mt. Juliet, Greeneville, around from everywhere. It brings the community together, everyone comes out here and has a good time and seems to get along we just like to show the community that we love everyone,” Carrie Lewis said.

Because so many people showed up, organizers said they ran out of some of the food items during the event, and said next year they will make sure to prepare for an even bigger crowd.
