Gatlinburg man and wife confirmed dead in Brussels attack

BRUSSELS (WATE) – A missing Gatlinburg man and his wife who were at the airport at the time of the attacks in Brussels have both been confirmed dead.

Justin Shults and his wife Stephanie went missing after dropping off Stephanie’s mother at the airport, where two of the bombings happened.

His brother, Levi, tweeted out the news when it happened… saying the following:

Justin Shults’ company, Clarcor, released a statement on the passing of Justin on Saturday:

We grieve with his family and continue to offer our support as they mourn this unimaginable loss. Justin has been an integral member of our global finance team since May of 2012 and he has lived with his wife, Stephanie, in Brussels since 2014. He will be remembered by his CLARCOR community as an intelligent, kind and loyal friend and employee. Justin will be greatly missed by those who knew him.”

Carolyn Moore tells CNN her daughter, Stephanie Shults is confirmed dead in Belgium.

“They are in heaven.  We go see tomorrow,” says Moore. When asked if Carolyn had confirmation about Stephanie, she replied: “Yes.”

Mars Petcare, the company Stephanie worked for, released a statement Saturday night confirming her death.

Today we learned from Stephanie’s family that she and her husband, Justin, were among those killed in the attack on the Brussels airport. We are mourning the loss of our colleague and friend. Our hearts and thoughts are with their families, and with all those who are suffering during this terrible time.”

The couple had lived in Brussels since 2014.
