COEBURN, VA (WJHL)- Saturday afternoon hundreds of people gathered in downtown Coeburn, Virginia for an annual event to raise awareness for down syndrome.
Crystal Lawson told us she started the event six year ago, inspired by her 10-year-old daughter who has down syndrome.
Lawson said people come to the event from all across Virginia and Tennessee.
There were 75 volunteers on hand to help the event run smoothly.
Families were able to enjoy games, food, and even an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday.
Local EMS, firefighters, and police also participate every year.
Lawson said the event runs on donations and is all in an effort raise awareness for down syndrome in our region.
March 21st marked World Down Syndrome Day.
