Two men, one a correctional officer, charged in drug smuggling operation at Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – Washington County, Va. Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two men – one of them a correctional officer at the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va. – smuggling drugs into the jail.

According to a WCVASO news release, information was received about a correctional officer at the Abingdon, Va. jail bringing drugs into the facility.

A joint operation was conducted by the sheriff’s office’s narcotics division, the Virginia State Police, the Abingdon, Va. Police Department, ATF, DEA, FBI and administrative personnel at the jail March 22.

A correctional officer at the jail, Justin Andrew Brown, 22, of Lebanon, Va., was arrested and charged with intent to distribute an imitation controlled substance, conspiracy to distribute a schedule II drug and attempt to deliver drugs to a jail.

Brown was taken to the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va., where he was later released on $6,000 bond.

Robert Lewis Jones, 24, also of Lebanon, Va., was arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute a schedule II drug and possession with intent to distribute an imitation controlled substance.

Jones was taken to the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va., where he was later released on $5,000 bond.
