WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL)-A Washington County teen facing a vehicular homicide charge was in court today.
According to a WCSO news release, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2100 block of Carroll Creek Road, where they found a car that had crashed into a tree and was on fire.
The driver was identified as Ira Bales, of Johnson City, driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.
According to the release, the passenger in the vehicle, Tanner Wolfe, 19, also of Johnson City, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the crash.
Bales was taken to a local hospital where he later gave a blood sample, which was submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for analysis.
According to the release, investigators presented the findings in the case to a Washington County grand jury. The grand jury then indicted Bales on a vehicular homicide charge.
Bales next court appearance is scheduled for June 7th.
