Body found in Boone Lake identified

BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL-TV) – A man whose body was found in Boone Lake this weekend had reportedly fled from sheriff’s deputies a few days before he was reported missing.

The body of 32-year-old Christopher Faidley, Blountivlle, was found Saturday morning in Boone Lake by fishermen, according to Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart.

“Around 11 o’clock on Saturday, we received a call that a body was floating in Boone Lake, specifically near the end of Blue Herron Lane in Piney Flats,” Earhart said. “It was discovered by some fishermen in the area and once they discovered it, they called us.  Detectives went out to the scene, collected the body, it was transferred to the Holston Valley Medical Center and it is being sent for an autopsy.”

A timeline for completion of the autopsy was not available.

“Autopsy results will reveal a lot more about this case than what we know right now, but I can tell you that on Jan. 30, officers were attempting to pull over Mr. Faidley in the area of Minga Rd,” Earhart said. “He did not stop, in fact he evaded officers.  They stopped the pursuit and a short time later, his vehicle was found at the end of Center Dr. in Blountville crashed into an embankment.  He was not around the scene, so he had fled the scene.”

A K-9 was brought in to search for Faidley but was unsuccessful.

“At that point, warrants were issued for his arrest and on Feb. 2, we received a call form his mother stating that she knew that her son had outstanding warrants, but it was uncommon for him not to be in contact with her,” Earhart said. “ So at that point we checked several addresses and have been attempting to locate Mr. Faidley ever sense.”

The investigation into the death is still ongoing and Earhart said detectives are looking for the public’s help.

“We’re not ruling anything out at this point, it’s being investigated just as any other un-attended death would be investigated,” she said. “If  he has been in contact with anyone since Jan. 30, we’re asking them to give us a call.  What detectives have to determine now is what occurred between the time Mr. Faidley fled the scene of the crash and when his body was located in Boone Lake on Saturday.”

Kingsport Life Saving Crew brought their boats out to help with the recovery and Bluff City Rescue Squad assisted as well. His body was sent for autopsy at East Tennessee State University’s College of Medicine.
