NAPLES, FL (WCMH) – More than 40 Burmese pythons, weighing about one ton, have been rounded up by researchers in Florida over the last three months.

According to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, one of the snakes captured weighed about 140 pounds and measured 16 feet long and is believed to be one of the largest ever documented in south Florida.

Some snakes captured are being used to help learn more about the invasive species. The so-called “snitch snakes” are tagged and researchers hope the study where the pythons are living in order to catch more snakes.
