Group rallies in Johnson City to legalize marijuana

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Dozens of marijuana supporters rallied in Johnson City Saturday afternoon.

The group walked from Cherry St in downtown to the intersection of State of Franklin and University Parkway.

Many of the medical marijuana supporters carried personal stories, and large cardboard signs.WEED2

“This is not just your simple pothead thing,” said organizer, David Michel. “It’s helping, it’s healing, and it’s medication for people who need it. The list of conditions that are treatable by cannabis is lengthy and growing every day.”

A total of 23 states and the District of Columbia currently allow the use of medical marijuana. Virginia and Tennessee do not allow it.

Another rally will be held at the same location on April 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
