MOSCOW (AP) – Officials say both flight recorders have now been recovered at the crash site in southern Russia where a Dubai airliner went down while trying to land in strong wind, killing all 62 people aboard.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said the Boeing 737-800 operated by budget airline FlyDubai was carrying 55 passengers, most of them Russians, and seven crew members of various nationalities.

While there’s no official cause yet, the governor of the Rostov region says that one likely factor was a strong wind gusting to near hurricane level.

Vasily Golubev is quoted by Russian news agencies as saying the plane crashed and burned about 800 feet short of a runway.

A ministry statement identified the plane as a Boeing 737-800 belonging to budget carrier FlyDubai, which has a good safety record. Russian officials say all 55 passengers, mostly Russians, and seven crew aboard were killed. Four children were among the dead.

Boeing says it’s ready to assist if requested.
